Since the mid-1990s, Sino-Japanese relations have been tense. Relations are so fragile and occasionally volatile that commentators wonder if there will be militarized conflict between these two protagonists. Yet according to various lines of commercial liberal thought Sino-Japanese relations should not be so fractious and cold. After all, Beijing and Tokyo interact in a situation of extensive economic interdependence.
