Abstract
A fingerprint recognizing system is built with two principal components: the fingerprint administrator and the fingerprint recognizer. Fingerprints are identified by their special features such as ridge endings, ridge bifurcation, short ridges, and ridge enclosures, which are collectively called the minutiae. The fingerprint administrator uses the method of gray scale ridge tracing backed up by a validating procedure to extract the minutiae of fingerprints. The fingerprint recognizer employs the technique of fuzzy evolutionary programming to match the minutiae of an input fingerprint with those from a database. Experimental results show the methods used are highly effective.

Fingerprints have been used for many centuries as a means of identifying people [8,16]. As it is well known that fingerprints of an individual are unique and are normally unchanged during the whole life, the use of fingerprints is considered one of the most reliable methods of personal verification. This method has been widely used in criminal identification, access authority verification, financial transferring confirmation, and many other civilian applications.

一個指紋識別系統(tǒng)首先要包括兩個部分:指紋管理程序和指紋識別器。指紋被他們的特有特征所識別,例如脊末梢、脊分叉點、短脊等一些被采集的特征點。指紋管理人使用被一個支持提取取指紋的 特征點 的灰色刻度脊的方法確認(rèn)程序追蹤。指紋識別系統(tǒng)利用模糊匹配算法將輸入的指紋的特征點和數(shù)據(jù)庫中的指紋的特征點進(jìn)行匹配。實驗證明這種方法是高效的。

在許多世紀(jì)以前,指紋就已經(jīng)被用來識別人的身份。眾所周知,每一個指紋都是獨一無二的,并且在人的一生中是固定不變的,指紋的使用被認(rèn)為是一種比較可靠的身分確認(rèn)方法。這種方法已經(jīng)被廣泛的應(yīng)用于罪犯的確認(rèn)、訪問授權(quán)的確認(rèn)、財政轉(zhuǎn)移的確認(rèn)和其他的市民申請。
