C語言是一種用來描述算法的程序設(shè)計(jì)語言（簡稱，算法語言），主要有以下特點(diǎn)：　　
1.C語言是面向過程的程序設(shè)計(jì)語言
過程性語言把解題看作是加工數(shù)據(jù)的過程，編寫解題程序時(shí)要將解題的過程（步驟）一步步描述出來。
2.C是高級語言
C語言是用英語和數(shù)學(xué)表達(dá)式這樣一種接近自然語言[a1]人類進(jìn)化過程中自然發(fā)展起來的語言[/a1]的語句來描述程序過程的程序設(shè)計(jì)語言，具有高級語言的全部特征。用C語言書寫的程序，必須翻譯成機(jī)器語言才能運(yùn)行，翻譯C程序的程序稱為C編譯器（簡稱編譯器）。
3.C是寫系統(tǒng)軟件的首選語言
C語言最初的設(shè)計(jì)目標(biāo)是用來寫操作系統(tǒng)的高級語言，因此，在C語言中除了提供一般高級語言都提供的基本功能外，還提供了通常只有在低級語言（如匯編語言）中才提供的功能，這使得C語言在很大程度上能代替匯編語言，因此，有人認(rèn)為C語言是一種兼有高級語言和低級語言雙重特性 ......
