Abstract: Alice Walker’s womanism is greatly influenced by the Feminist Movement in America, but has its own features. In her novel The Color Purple, she exposes that the black women are doubly oppressed. They are discriminated against by both racism and sexism. This paper aims to make readers have a clear understanding of the meaning and characteristics of Walker’s womanism by analyzing some representative characters and plots in The Color Purple.
