The Influence of Chinese Topic-Comment and the English Subject-Predicate Structure on Communication and Thinking Styles

1 Introduction

With China making great efforts on its reform and opening to the outside world, connections between China and the other countries are growing rapidly in recent years. So the role of cross-culture communication is becoming important. 

In this thesis, the comparison of Chinese and English speaking people’s thinking modes and communicative styles are introduced firstly. Then two syntactic structures, i.e. the English subject-predicate structure and the Chinese topic-predicate structure are stated. Based on the analysis on two syntactic structures and the theories of language-culture relationship, the explaination of how the syntactic structure affects thought of Chinese and English speaking people is given.
