【Abstract】: This paper through a study of the extent to which Edna Pontellier, in Kate Chopin's The Awakening, marks a departure from the female characters of earlier nineteenth-century American novels, and show us the changing attitudes towards women's role in society.

【摘要】：凱特•肖邦的傳世之作《覺醒》被西方文評(píng)界認(rèn)為是美國(guó)女權(quán)主義文學(xué)的經(jīng)典作品。本文通過對(duì)該小說中女主角埃德娜的性格分析及對(duì)19世紀(jì)其他幾個(gè)典型的美國(guó)小說女主角的比較，揭示女性自我意識(shí)的覺醒和女性反叛這一主題，同時(shí)也反映了19世紀(jì)整個(gè)社會(huì)對(duì)女性這一角色態(tài)度的改變。
